Okay, many people are asking why do I think Anderson Silva is going to lose against Vitor Belfort on UFC 126 fight night. First of all, if you haven’t read it, be sure to read my Silva vs Belfort Fight prediction. You will also find the full fight coverage there. Now, the reason why I think Anderson Silva has a disadvantage (I never said that he WILL lose categorically) is because he is for the first time in a position where he will fight a better stand up fighter than he himself is. Now, this may be the object of debate, but I simply don’t think anyone is better than Vitor Belfort on feet currently (in the UFC world of course).
Anderson is a great fighter, the most talented fighter I’ve ever seen in my life probably. His physical constitution is not something to admire (look at Belfort’s in turn), but he uses his body so well to swiftly move around, throwing those fast punches and kicks from a comfortable distance.
HOWEVER, I don’t think this is going to work against Belfort. I know how dreamy we can become in thinking that grace beats brute force, but Vitor is not just about brute force. I don’t think he will repeat the same mistake as Carwin did against Lesnar. Why? Well, first, Belforts punches are VERY ACCURATE. I don’t even need to talk about the fight against Wanderlei Silva. I mean, how many punches has he landed? 27 in a row? On the other hand, if Belfort does make a mistake of trying to finish Silva in the first round, and starts to throw punches mindlessly, I have no doubts that Silva will capitalize on this. It’s a two-edged sword really.
My point ultimately is that Vitors style of fighting is very rough for Anderson Silva. If he’s even a fraction of what he was in his young days, he should have no problems against Anderson, at least no problems while standing up. Which brings me to my second point:
Anderson Silva is not the best wrestler in the world. Not that he’s bad or anything (I haven’t seen him taking down anyone very often), but his style of fighting almost skips any kind of wrestling except clinching. I think that Anderson Silva is a better fighter when it comes to clinching than Vitor Belfort. But with Belforts agressive style I can’t see him allowing Anderson to clinch and wear him out.
My last point is that both guys are great on the ground. You can’t expect anything else from two masters, black belt Jiu Jitsu holders. In spite of that, if the fight does go to the ground, Belforts physical constitution and strength could allow him to bring Anderson to a situation where he will be able to ground and pound him. Vitor certainly has to be fully concentrated, because we all know what happened to Chael Sonnen (I’m not getting into a debate on him using drugs or not).
That’s my honest opinion guys. I’d like to know what you think. And by the way, be sure to read my Silva vs Belfort Fight Review and Prediction. Thanks for reading, and I hope I’ll get some feedback from you guys!
I dont think you have enough facts to support that statement. Anderson Silva has way fewer loses , and both fighters fought in pride, so if Vitor has better standup and equivalent BJJ why doesnt he have fewer losses! Here is a REAL stat for you, Belfort has lost 30% of his fights vs. Silvas 12%. While Vitor has a higher % of fights ending by (T)KO 68% vs. 55% Silva has more 15 vs. 13 in only 4 more fights. Plus, silva has never been KO’d and Belfort has. I am a Silva fan and this fight makes me nervous, but get your facts right when talking about the best striker in the WORLD which is ANDERSON SILVA!!!!
First of all, I never said Silva will lose. I only think that Vitor is more hungry, and that his stand up is better in my opinion. That’s my personal opinion. I also think that Silva is the best P4P fighter in the world, but I’m affraid he’s going to lose this fight if he tries to openly clash with Belfort. If he’s 90% of that which he was before, he’ll have no problems facing him toe to toe. I’m not bashing Silva and I think there is a possibility of him winning, I just think it won’t happen.
Jon get your facts straight… There’s a freaking difference between TKO and KO. If you want to talk about stats come on man take a closer look at their records. AS is a natural LHW in my opinion, whose been winning fight because he fights smaller guys compare to Vitor who is alot smaller than him considering their body frames. Vitor’s loses are to the best in the LHW Division unlike Silva’s, which are to opponents that are mostly smallers than him. Vitor will KTFO of AS!
That’s a great point MMA fan. This has completely crossed my mind. In fact, I was always thinking why are all the guys Silva is fighting so smaller than him. I mean, his reach is incredible, he hits punches others could dream of hitting. I guess I was never bold enough to say that he’s a natural LHW. He’s got to have light bones or something
as for your comments on anderson fighting “smaller” guys look what happened when he moved up in weight ive never seen forrest griffon look that (for lack of a better word “bad” and scout4movies im not saying i have the grammar but on your fight predtions page this came up”His hands are a lot more faster and he’s the more dangerous striker in this match up.” a lot more faster… if your going to post your writing online i would of used grammar check
hey john, thanks for your reply, I fixed it… there’s never too much of grammar checking
