Velasquez vs Dos Santos Fight Predictions:
Wow, this is honestly one of the most exciting fights in the history of UFC and MMA in general. I don’t think that we’ve ever seen a heavyweight title fight so technical as this one is. But before I get on with my predictions, let me tell you a little about this fight. Velasquez vs Dos Santos is a heavyweight championship bout fight. It’s going to be held at the Honda Center, Anaheim, California on November 12th 2011. This is also the debut of UFC on television (FOX). That’s why this event doesn’t have a number in it’s name, but is rather called UFC on FOX: Velasquez vs Dos Santos.
Ok, lets get on to the predictions and odds.
Honestly, this fight is probably the most technical heavyweight fight in the history of UFC. I don’t think any of the heavyweight fighters are as technical as these 2 guys. Also, to be honest, this is probably the hardest prediction that I’ve ever had to write.
STRIKING: Striking is the domain of Junior Dos Santos. JDS is probably the best striker in the UFC overall. When we spread this out even wider, he’s probably the best striker in the MMA (excluding Alistair Overeem). If you’ve ever watched any of the JDS fights, you’d realize that he practically doesn’t even throw kicks. He punches people to the face and they go down. Velasquez has no chances in exchanging punches with Junior Dos Santos in this fight. However, he could do some damage by throwing a few low kicks, just to hinder his movement.
WRESTLING: Wrestling in this match up belongs to Cain Velasquez. Velasquez is a better wrestler, and not only that, but he also has incredible cardio. We have to be careful here though. Do you remember the Carwin vs JDS fight ? JDS managed to defend against a few vicious take downs. This tells me that he has a great take down defense.
GROUND: Well, JDS probably has a better ground defense, since he has a black belt under the Nogueira brothers, but Velasquez has sheer power and ground and pound on his side. I think that this fight can end up on the ground if Cain sees that he can’t cope with Dos Santos striking wise.
Wtih all these aspects covered, let me say this: I think that Velasquez has the advantage in this fight. Why? Well, simply put, he’s a fighter with incredible cardio that pushes his own pace of the fight. Velasquez has better cardio than Dos Santos and I think that he will dictate the pace. To be honest, Cain is also a more complete fighter. In fact, he is the most complete fighter in the UFC. This fight is hard to predict because we haven’t seen much by both of the fighters in their previous fights, simply because of the fact that they destroyed their opponents very early on.
If this fight goes on on feet, JDS definitely has the advantage. His punches are strong and precise. However, I just think that Velasquez has more tools to push this fight in the direction that fits him. I don’t even think that his octagon absence (1 year) will matter that much, his cardio and completeness will allow him to dictate, and eventually, win this fight. My prediction is that Velasquez will win this fight via a TKO in the second round.
Velasquez vs Dos Santos Odds:
Cain Velasquez 55 : 45 Junior Dos Santos.
Velasquez vs Dos Santos Full Fight Coverage:
Wow, this was a shocker for me. Basically, there is no coverage for this fight since the fight literally lasted for a minute. JDS knocked Cain Velasquez out with an overhand right. Basically, this was the only way JDS could have won, and he managed to do it. Congrats!

UPDATE: After watching the UFC on FOX weigh.in video today (didn’t watch it live), I’m a bit concerned about Cain’s looks. I think that he’s gotten some fat around his waist which MAY BE the indicator that his cardio is not as good as it was before the injury. However, I still stand at my predictions and think that Cain will win nonetheless.
Man I’m so excited about this fight. I don’t care about the other fights, I just want this one to start. Velasquez vs Dos Santos might be one of the most thrilling fights in the history of the heavyweight division. What say you guys?
