Well, I didn’t have much time to prepare for this fight, since we only recently found out that Mark Munoz is injured and that he won’t be able to fight. But, in a way, I’m more excited about this fight than I was about the Sonnen vs Munoz. We have 2 masters at trash talking here. This makes this fight even more interesting from the press point of view. You gotta give it to them, these guys know how to sell their fights. But, I will disappoint you a bit: both of them are really “good” in their own personal lives. As I’m writing this, the verbal bullying has already started on Twitter

Now, let’s get more serious, shall we. Who is going to win this fight? Well, it’s a tough call, but I think that in the end, Chael Sonnen has a lot more to lose if he loses this fight. On the other hand, this fight is actually terrific for “the Count”. Why? Well, if I recall correctly, Bisping was 2 fights away form the title shot, and now, he’s only 1 fight away. I don’t think that he’s going to lose a lot if he loses this fight.
With all that being said, I will give the advantage to Sonnen in this fight. Why?
First of all, Chael is the best wrestler in the middleweight division by far. I don’t think that anyone even comes close when it comes to control and ground game in general. I don’t think that Sonnen is an attractive fighter, but he does get the job done. Kinda reminds me of Gray Maynard and Jon Fitch a bit.
Now, Bispings wrestling is not that good at all. Bisping has always been of those guys who like to brawl. His jiu jitsu is good, but I don’t think that it will be enough to do anything on the ground except from defending. If Chael gets on top of Bisping (and he will get there, trust me), Bisping might be skillful enough to fend of those attacks.
It all comes down to who is a more complete fighter, and who is better at imposing his own game plan upon his opponent. In this case, I think that this person is Chael Sonnen. His striking is good enough to exchange with Bisping, and he out wrestles him very hard. In the end, this fight is probably only going to be a lot of talk (and that’s good for the sport), but the actual octagon performance is gonna be pretty mediocre.
Chael Sonnen will win this fight by unanimous decision after 3 rounds of hard working grind. What do you guys think?

January 20th, 2012 - I just read an interesting article about the statements of Michael Bisping concerning his opponent. He said that he’s pretty much disappointed by Chael Sonnen calling him a Pip. He expected much more of him. Bisping called him a “failed partisan and a failed politician”. Read the rest of the article yourself.
January 21st, 2012 – After reading an excellent article on USA today (an interview with Chael Sonnen), I have to tell you that he’s not the kind of a guy that you think he is. He respects his opponents, and actually makes great statements. Read the whole article yourself if you want to, I’ll just give you a brief summary here: First of all, he said that he doesn’t actually hate Michael Bisping. He respects him because he wins his fights, because he doesn’t hand-pick them, and because he sells arenas full of fans (which is of course, great for MMA business). The one thing that surprised me is the fact that Sonnen thinks that Bisping actually earned his title shot. Sonnen went on to say that he would rather fight Bisping than Munoz because his style fits him more than Marks. Also, when asked about the fight plan, he said that he usually doesn’t have any, he tries to pull of things with which he can get away with. So, be sure to think about that when you watch the Sonnen vs Bisping fight video. Excellent article, read it yourself.
January 22nd, 2012 – I just read an interesting article on Cagepotato (this was an interview with Michael Bisping). To sum it up, Bisping said that Sonnen’s biggest weapon is his mouth, and that this isn’t a kissing contest. He went on to say that he won’t get taken down, but even if he does, he worked with jiu jitsu pros like Jake Shields and Lister. Bisping is very confident in his jiu jitsu and he’s implying that if Chael Sonnen takes him down (we will have to see that in the full fight video), he will submit him from his back. A very bold statement.
January 27th, 2012 – After watching the pre-fight press conference, I just have to say that this conference was hilarious, especially when the topic was Sonnen vs Bisping fight. For start, Chael Sonnen came in with a fake middleweight belt, insisting that he stole it from Anderson Silva. “If he wants to get it back, let him come and get it”. Michael Bisping isn’t that happy for being an underdog every fight, but he says that he is a better striker.
Chael Sonnen put on a great show I have to say: he was speaking in rhymes, taunting Anderson Silva and Michael Bisping. Saying all kinds of trash to both of them. Sonnen also said one interesting thing: he said that he “doesn’t do camps” like other fighters do, because this only means that the fighters are saying how “my wife and kids are getting on my nerves, so I have to get out”. Man, Sonnen just blew me away with that interview that you posted. I mean, I never thought that this trash talking guy can make so much sense, and most of all – can respect his opponents. I’m definitely cheering for Sonnen this fight, he’s gonna control Bisping until the end of the third round and win.
LOL. Bisping is gonna mop the floor with this guy. I predict the first round KO after Sonnen tries to take him down. Can’t wait for the fight video though!
I do get why some people think that Bisping is gonna win, but from my perspective, Sonnen is simply one class higer than Bisping. Sure, Bisping can punch, but you’re all forgetting that Sonnen can punch as well, if not even better then the Count. Secondly, I don’t think that Bisping is skilled enough to stop takedowns from Sonnen. In my opinion, Sonnen will destroy Bisping on the ground. So, my predictions – Sonnen vs Bisping – 2nd round tko by ground and pound. Mark my words.
