Today I read a very disturbing article on MMA Fighting about GSP fighting Nick Diaz before Anderson Silva. What do I think about that?
Well, first of all, I’m very angry about the fact that Dana White really loves to give fights to guys who express their deep desire to fight another fighter. Just look at the Ultimate Fighter show; almost all the decisions the UFC president makes are based on his personal opinion about the “hunger meter”. If a guy shows that he really wants the fight, and then he manages to pursue White to give him the fight, he will in 95% of cases get it.
It’s reported that Nick Diaz was in Las Vegas last Thursday. What did he do there? Well, he simply repeated the above mentioned process; he really, really wants this fight to happen.
Don’t get me wrong, Nick Diaz is a great fighter, and I do think that he can pose a major threat to GSP despite the fact that rarely anyone thinks that anyone in the welterweight division can pose any kind of a threat to GSP anymore. His aggressive style mixing jiu jitsu and boxing has some potential agains St-Pierre.
But I’m also looking forward to the GSP vs Silva fight. I think that this fight has the potential to be the best fight of the decade. Think about it: talent against athleticism. These kinds of bouts and fights can only prolong this fight. What would happen if GSP lost the fight against Diaz? Well, then we would not see the GSP vs Silva any time soon, would we?
I also heard that Anderson Silva is going to defend his title against Yushin Okami on UFC 134.
What do you guys think? Is it better for GSP to fight Nick Diaz, or do you really look orward to the epic Silva vs GSP fight? I don’t know, maybe I underestimate other fighters a bit, but I’m tired of reading all the hype, just to see another boring GSP vs Koscheck rewinds.
