UFC 130 Fight Card:

Okay, before we start, I’d just like to write the fight card down, since I like to keep my posts and articles clean and tidy. So here it goes:

As the main event of the evening we’ve got the fight between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Matt Hamill.
The main co-event is the Frank Mir vs Roy Nelson fight.
Stefan Struve is facing Travis Browne.
Jorge Santiago is fighting against Brian Stann
Thiago Alves is facing off Rick Story.

Rampage vs Hamill Predictions:

First of all, I have to say that I’m very disappointed in the fact that this is going to be the main event of the evening. I was looking forward to the Edgar vs Maynard 3 fight, where we’d finally put the long lasting debate down: who’s better, Frankie or Gray? By the way, I really do wish all the best to those 2 guys, and I hope we can see this fight in the near future. On to my predictions.

This is going to be fairly short. Why? Simply because I personally think that Rampage is a better fighter in every aspect of the game except for wrestling.

First of all, Matt Hamill won’t be able to cope against a stand up technician such as Rampage. Rampage is a good enough technical fighter, definitely with a KO power to put Hamill to sleep. I ‘m not saying that Hamill is the worst stand up guy there, because he certainly isn’t, but I just think that this fight is not a good match up for him. To elaborate this even further, let’s take a look at all of Matts losses: He lost against Jones, Franklin and Bisping. Guess what? All of them are great stand up fighters, with Bisping being more of a brawler, and Franklin and Jones being more of a technical martial artists. Now, combine the brawling and technical abilities. What do you get? You guessed it- you get Rampage Jackson. While he is definitely not as good as Jones or Franklin as a technical fighter, he fixes this by being a more aggressive fighter than those two. Not to mention that Quinton HAS the KO power in his hands.

With that being said, is there anything that could go wrong with Rampage? Well, there is. We all know that Rampage doesn’t have strong work ethics, and Hamill does. Hamill always comes in great shape to his fights, all the while Rampage has a much more relaxed approach to the fights. This could cost him dearly this time. I’m saying this because Hamill does have the potential to learn how to defend against constant pressure.

There’s also a good argument that I’ve been hearing on the internet about Rampage not fighting for more than six months. His last fight was on November 20th 2010 against Lyoto Machida. That’s a lot of time.

With all this being said, I can’t do anything else but to say that Rampage might win this fight in the first round by a TKO or a KO. He’s simply a much better striker, has a good enough wrestling and clinching to fend off Hamills aggression, and I simply don’t think that the fight will go to the ground at any point of the fight. You’ll just have to watch the fight video (or live event) to see for yourself.

Rampage vs Hamill Coverage:

Round 1: Hamill starts off aggressively, not allowing Rampage to close the distance. He’s throwing low kicks all the time. After an unsuccessful takedown attempt Rampage retaliates with a few blows. Nothing major though. A few brawling clashes are happening now and then, and I must say, Hamill is hitting his target more than Rampage. Hamill continues on with low kicks. Matt trying to take Rampage down one more time, but his take down defense is great. 20 seconds before the end of the first round Rampage is on the hunt! He’s trying to finish off Hamill with the flurry of blows but they just don’t seem to hit properly. The first round is finished. Hamill is bleeding around his lips. This is a tough round to decide. I think it did go to Rampage, simply because of the last 20 seconds.

Round 2: Hamill is once again attacking and Rampage is counter-striking. None of those punches are hitting anybody though. Rampage defends a takedown and manages to push Matt off the fence. Rampage is constantly fending off take downs while at the same tame hitting Hamill with knees. The fight video shows that his takedown defense is simply superb. For every takedown attempt Hamill is getting punished. It’s 40 seconds before the end of the second round and Rampage lands a great uppercut. Hamill is shaken. He tries to push Quinton on the fence to recover and manages to do it. They break off but Rampage starts to brawl once again. Another round goes to Rampage Jackson.

Round 3: In the first 2 minutes nothing special happened. Rampage is still on the hunt and Hamill looks like he is clueless what to do. The take down defense of Rampage is 100%. Jackson starts to mix things up by throwing punches to the body. Rampage is rocking Hamill from all sides; low kicks, uppercuts, you name it. But the fact still remains: none of them are lethal enough to put Matt Hamill to sleep. Rampage is winning every clinch by using his knees to the body. Rampage is on the loose for the last 10 seconds. The fight ends and I think Rampage won. I also see in his face that he is disappointed for not finishing the fight.

Rampage vs Hamill Results:

After 3 hard fought rounds, Quinton “Rampage Jackson” wins over Matt “The Hammer” Hamill via unanimous decision. I’m surprised how good Rampage’s takedown defense was. He also had a very good cardio. A well deserved win if you ask me.
