Jones vs Bader Predictions
UFC 126 provides us with one of the most interesting fight cards in a long, long time. Not only is this a great business move by the UFC president Dana White, but it’s also a great move for the fans. I know that some of you will not like this match up, because, after all, they both are the light heavyweight title contenders, at least in my opinion.
This fight is going to take place on feet, I have no doubts about it. Ryan Bader will try to take Jon Bones Jones down, but we know how dangerous he can be in a clinch, and I know that Bader knows that too. That’s why he won’t be as aggressive as against his other opponents (Lil Nog comes to my mind first). Here’s my concern, though. Do you remember the fight against Stephan Bonner? You can’t deny this: Jones gassed out. He can’t allow himself to gas out against Bader, because Bader strikes very hard, and rarely misses his opportunities to take down his worn out opponents. From that aspect, Bader can cope on feet. He just has to make sure he wears Jones out enough.
Another thing that can happen is for Bader to gas out. I think that there hasn’t been a single fight where he didn’t gas out after the first round. This gives advantage to Jon Jones because he just might be able to out punch and out wrestle Bader in the later stages of the fight (I don’t think he’s a better wrestler than Bader when he isn’t gassed).
Now, this question comes to my mind: is Jon Jones really overrated? Well, to tell you honestly, I don’t think he is. The reason for this is that he simply demolishes his opponents (who are not top tier, but are good) very fast. We don’t know how he can cope with the top 10 fighters in the LHW division, that’s the real issue.
On the other hand, people are constantly criticizing Ryan Bader. Sure, he gases out, but you can’t deny that he is a great , smart fighter. He simply knows how to mix in stand up with his wrestling just to get a win. A victory over Lil Nogueira is not something to laugh at. When did Nogueira lose last time. In February 2010?
Overall, I can’t deny that Jones has the advantage in this fight. But I will also not dare to say something like: “Bader is going to get destroyed”, because Bader is also a great fighter himself, and he just might outsmart Jones. He also has to be very careful not to get caught in some scheme. The fighters which are not afraid to experiment with unorthodox kicks and punches are very dangerous, trust me. So, my prediction is that Jones will win this fight either by a first round or a third round K.O. What do you guys think?
Jones vs Bader Full Fight Analysis
Coming after the fight…
Good analysis although I think you downplay the dangers of Bader’s gassing a little bit. I think it is a fatal weakness of his and he will have to fix it if he has designs of ever being a champ in any division. Bones did gas in the Bonnar fight but i think part of that had to do with him being so aggressive and trying to many crazy strikes/takedowns due to his wanting to put on a show for his first real televised fight. He’s much smarter now and I dont think we’ll see him make that mistake again. Overall I think the ONLY chance Bader has is a haymaker/fluke type of shot in the first round. If he can’t do that then I believe it will be a devastating TKO win for Bones in 2nd.
yep, I do agree, maybe I’m a bit too light feathered on the problem of Bader’s gassing out. We’ll see though, I don’t now how his training is going on, maybe he fixed it.
Yep, at least I got this fight right
. Although I’m kinda embarrassed by saying that it will take place only on feet, when the majority of work was done on the ground. Nonetheless, Jones has proven that he’s got it. At least in my opinion.
