GSP vs Shields Predictions:
I’m going to start my predictions by saying that I always generally tend to be very objective, without my emotions playing a role. I also tend not to be biased. Basically, this fight is, in my opinion, the hardest test that GSP will face to this date. Although I do think that Jake Shields is the underdog in this match up, I also see this fight coming in two directions. What will happen exactly? I really don’t know, since MMA is the kind of a sport which is very unpredictable, since only seconds decide. Lets’ start by comparing the different aspects of the game one by one.
STAND UP. Basically, this is a no contest, since I do believe that Georges St-Pierre is a much, much better stand up fighter than Shields. He’s proven to be one of the smartest fighters when it comes to tactics. Remember the second fight against Koscheck? Well, he simply eliminated any chance of getting hit by an overhand right by jabbing from a comfortable distance. Even though Shields doesn’t have the firepower of Josh Koscheck in his hands, I think that he will try to engage on feet as well, since GSP is very hard to take down. I think that Jake’s strategy will severely be limited, maybe even forcing the fight to be on feet constantly.
GRAPPLING. Well, none of these guys excel at grappling all that much, but I must say that GSP looks a lot stronger physically. However, Shields is like a fox when it comes to grappling and securing dominant positions, there is no one like him that I’ve seen. He uses all angles to close the distance, simply to trap you into a position he wants. GSP has to be very careful not to get caught, because if you give Shields place to maneuver, he will sub you in a matter of seconds.
GROUND. Here’s where it gets interesting. I will immediately say that Jake Shields is probably the best guy that I’ve ever seen on the floor. He has the “knock out” power in his submissions, and it seems so easy when he does it. If you’re on the floor with him, you simply stand no chance. His jiu jitsu technique is awesome and he’s so fast when trying to establish a dominant position. If you watch his fights against Dan Henderson and such, you will realize that there are few who can even resist him on the floor for a few minutes. But is this the case with GSP. I don’t think so, Even though Shields is a lot better grappler than GSP, we all know how Georges loves to beat specialists in their own game. Not necessarily because he is better than them, but because he outsmarts them.
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER. This could be an interesting one, or it could be a very dull rewind of the GSP vs Koscheck 2. If GSP secures his stand up position by not allowing Shields to close the gap, he might just win unanimously, since his jabs don’t provide enough firepower to take someone out. On the other hand, if Shields does manage to take St-Pierre down, this fight will be extremely fun to watch. Will GSP be able to get out of the submission holds by Shields. I don’t know, we’ll just have to wait and see. I will give this fight to GSP though, only because he is a more complete fighter than Jake Shields.
GSP vs Shields Odds:
With all that being said, I’m giving this fight to Georges St-Pierre with 55:45 chance of winning.

Miller was able to take jake down with ease. GSP is going to dominate the standing and he will dominate shields on the ground also. GSP will GNP shields or Submission……Easy win for GSP
I agree that GSP will win, but I just don’t know if this fight is going to be so easy for him though. It all depends on the ability of Shields to take him down and finish him fast with some kind of a submission.
55-45 really?? REALLY?? I love GSP, I will watch him fight regardless. People are trying to make this more of a fight then it really is.I am sorry, Brazilian jiu jitsu, is very important, everyone says most important. My personal opinion is that wrestling, simple wrestling has become more important on the ground. Shield drops his guard standing, I don’t think this will every change. He is slow to react, un-originial. He can’t box, can’t kick, can’t take down and has almost not take down defense. He is not a pushover, he could kick my ass a thousand times in a row. That said I give his him a 10% chance at victory and a 40% chanc eat makign 25 minutes
As long as GSP stays striking with Shields then he should be fine. he’s only going to be at risk if he goes to the ground with Jake. Jake is very good on the ground but GSP has shown to be very good at avoiding subs aside from the Matt Hughes loss but the GSP of 04 and the current GSP are two totally different fighters and let’s not forget that GSP destroyed BJ Penn who is known for his crazy BJJ skills. Basically as long as GSP doesn’t get swept while he’s on top he’ll be ok. Shields can’t outstrike him and I think it’s going to be hard for Shields to put GSP on his back and have much success with keeping him down and I just really doubt GSP is even going to bother with going to the ground to often.
But really I don’t understand why people are thinking this is going to be a walk in the park for GSP. I think he’ll win but Shields is a tough guy to put away and I think he’ll be in there for the full 5 rounds and threatning the whole time. Shields isn’t Hardy or Koscheck who just kind of accepted that they were going to get beat. Hardy was sucking wind big time by round 3, and Koscheck was pretty much humiliated from round 2 and on.
Looks like another GSP vs Koscheck 2 rewind. Oh well, I won’t even try to push GSP to finish fights anymore. Great fighter though. I wonder why Shields didnt try harder to take him down. I mean, did he really think that he can cope on feet? LOL
