Franklin vs Griffin Predictions:
Okay, I have to say that this is a very very hard prediction for me to make. Unlike my Silva vs Belfort Predictions, I’m not 100% sure on this one. The main reason for this is because these guys have pretty much very similar fighting styles. I’m going to go a bit deeper on each element of the game later on, but I just felt the need to get this off my back
: Don’t kill me if I get this one wrong. In any case, I wouldn’t bet on any fights where one fighter is named Forrest Griffin anyways.
Considering the stand up part of the game, I really think that Griffin has better leg kicks, but not by a lot. I know how easy and tempting it is to give the total kicking advantage to Forrest Griffin here, but just remember that Rich “Ace” Franklin does know how to land a good middle kick to the liver. Rich is a lot better striker in my opinion, not necessarily because he is stronger (because this is debatable), but because he is a smart fighter and his positioning allows him to land precise punches. On the other hand, Griffin is more of a brawler.
Since Forrest is a taller fighter of the two, I think I have to give him the advantage in the clinching aspect. His height advantage will possibly allow him to land more knees. However, Rich’s positioning comes to my mind again here. Nevertheless, I give the advantage to Forrest. He is a strong fighter physically, and he will be able to control Franklin in the clinch. The only question is, will he be able to gain any notable advantage there.
Considering the ground game, there is a high possibility that we won’t see a lot of it. I mean, both of them are good ground fighters and all, but I just don’t think any one of them will accept the ground game. One of the main reasons for this is that none of them basically have any finishing capabilities on the floor. Forrest’s strength and physical constitution come to my mind, but I just don’t believe Rich will allow him to get to the ground and pound position after all.
All in all, I think that this fight is very tough, and while Rich should win on paper, this is a very hard fight to predict. As Dana White would say: “you don’t know what will happen in the fight until it finishes”, I will be bold and give the advantage to Rich Franklin. A TKO in the second round. And, I have to mention this: all props to the middleweight division. It’s a great division if you ask me. The only thing that’s missing in Anderson Silva getting K.O. ed, but we’re approaching this moment too (love you Vitor Belfort!)
Watch some of the Franklin vs Griffin Fight videos that I was able to find below, and also stay tuned for my Ryan Bader vs Jon Jones predictions. I will write it down as soon as I remind myself of their fights some more.
